School Governance – Board of Management
Catherine McAuley Junior School is managed by a Board of Management and is funded by the State through the Department of Education and Skills. The rules that govern our school, are determined by national policies.
We share the Board of Management with Edmund Rice Senior School (Bunscoil Rís). One Board has shared governance of the two schools. This is a new model of management which consists of three parent representatives elected from the parent body of the two schools, three community representatives, three patron nominees, one teacher representative and the principals of both schools.
Both schools have a unique roll number and separate finances. The shared Board of Management ensures continuity and consistency between the two schools in practical areas like the school calendar (opening and closing on the same days, the same starting/finishing times), uniforms, school policies such as the Code of Behaviour, common approaches to teaching and learning. Strong communication links between the two schools helps in the transition from the Junior School to the Senior School.
The role of the Board is determined by the Constitution and Rules of Procedure for Boards of Management. This ensures open, transparent management of the schools. The school accounts are certified each year.
